"Box City" Homelessness Awareness Project

For the past five years LCR youth and adult volunteers have spent the first Friday night in December sleeping outside on the front lawn of the church in cardboard boxes to increase awareness of homelessness in Bucks County and to raise funds for the Red Cross Homeless Shelter in Levittown, PA.

This year more than50 volunteers participated in the event, as youth and adults from LCR were joined by youth and adults from Family of God Lutheran Church in Buckingham. Over $6500 was raised for the Homeless Shelter! The band "Constant Recourse" played, and Mr. William Burns, Director of Shelter Services, and Danielle Webb, Director of Communications for the Lower Bucks County Red Cross, were here to share information regarding the shelter and offer their support. For more information, or if you would like to be involved in next year's event, please contact Pastor Sharon at LCR.

Souper Bowl of Caring Project

The youth at LCR have been participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring project since 2003 and have collected over 1,350 cans of soup which have been donated to local soup kitchens in the area.

The Souper Bowl of Caring(www.souperbowl.org) is a national non-profit organization whose stated mission is to utilize Super Bowl weekend to mobilize youth to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities. In November of 2007 Ashley Mullican, a youth at LCR, was named to the newly formed National Youth Advisory Board. Ashley's personal goal is to increase the awareness of the Souper Bowl of Caring in the Philadelphia region and significantly increase the level of participation during this year’s campaign. Ashley was selected for the Board again in 2008, and this year serves as one of two youth advisors appointed to the National Board as well.
