Global

As two of our new members stated, "I joined this church because of its commitment to missions." At LCR, we are continually growing in our understanding that we are connected to our brothers and sisters across the globe. We continue to seek ways to educate ourselves about the global scene and to create partnerships with those around the world. Our current projects include:

Peaceworker Quilters -who sew beautiful quilts for Lutheran World Relief. The quilts are sent to sites around the world, including refugee camps. These quilts are used for warmth, but also for shelter. Carrie Hufnal-Miller is the coordinator.

Tanzania Partnership - we have recently established a partnership with a congregation in our companion diocese in Tanzania. We are beginning initial conversations with our partner with the goal of developing ways that we can learn about each other. LCR is sending a team to Tanzania in the summer of 2009 Kara Beardsell is the coordinator.

Thailand Connection - LCR continues to support our member Kara Beardsell in her ministry to children in Thailand. In the spring of 2006, LCR supported Kara in her trip to Thailand to provide school supplies and loving care to children who have been devastated by the tsunamni. LCR hopes to continue to develop this relationship.

Dominican Republic Connection - LCR continues to support our member Kara Beardsell in her ministry to children in the Dominican Republic. In August of 2007, LCR supported Kara in her trip to the Dominican Republic to provides supplies, clothing and loving care to malnourished children. Kara returned to the Dominican Republic with two LCR members in June of 2008. They delivered clothing, medical and school supplies to children in several impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic.

Global Mission Event - Each year the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America hosts a Global Mission event. In the summer of 2006, Elaine Zimmerman and Cyndie Novak attended this great event and returned with much information about global missions.

Costa Rica Connection - LCR member Sandy Mullican traveled to Costa Rica in August of 2007 as part of the "Thrivent Builds/Habitat for Humanity" program. Sandy will be attending Worldwide Leader Training in October, 2007, and is hoping to lead a group on a Habitat build in 2009. Sandy will be traveling to Mexico in July of 2008 as part of the "Thrivent Builds/Habitat for Humanity" program.
